From Distance Education To E-learning
As the postsecondary institutions most open to change, community colleges have in many regards led the way to distance education. Recent NCES data show that public two-year colleges account for almost half of the institutions in this country that offer distance education. In creating distance education opportunities community college are responding to the mounting demands of nontraditional learners, working professionals, college community distance education and lifelong learners, while trying to compete effectively with various educational providers college community distance education and answer the public college community distance education and legislative call for cost effectiveness college community distance education and reform. The volume proposed will examine the past college community distance education and present landscape of issues college community distance education and challenges associated with distance education from regional, state, college community distance education and institutional perspectives. It will look at the current challenges college community distance education and successes of faculty, student service professionals, presidents, college community distance education and other administrative leaders as they endeavor to create a quality learning environment through distance education. In addition this issue will address the unresolved issues (e.g. intellectual property rights) college community distance education and those on the horizon for the rapidly changing arena of distance education. Legal Issues in the Community College
This issue will help college leaders inform themselves about legal issues that threaten institutional stability college community distance education and effectiveness today. Across the nation, community colleges are being sued with increasing frequency over a variety of issues. Officials are confronted with a multitude of federal statutes college community distance education and court rulings that have made governance college community distance education and administration more complex college community distance education and legalistic than ever before. Special-interest groups, like teachers? unions college community distance education and taxpayers? associations, are increasingly involved in governing board elections, creating volatile situations for presidents. Consequently, caution is a watchword among many leaders. This situation does nothing to foster the teamwork that is essential in quality institutions.  Community colleges exist in a highly litigious society, college community distance education and their leaders are confronted with numerous legal issues as they carry out assigned duties. Some of those issues are not new to postsecondary education. Examples include governing board relations, academic freedom college community distance education and tenure, collective bargaining, college community distance education and employment issues. Other issues newer to the community college include student rights, codes of conduct, accommodation of disabled students, campus safety, distance education, intellectual property rights, college community distance education and risk management. Community college leaders must find ways to resolve or mitigate these college community distance education and other issues if their colleges are to continue providing exemplary services to students.
